"Shine out, fair sun, with all your heat, Show all your thousand-coloured light!"

Be one of our 240 singers!

Enjoy two intensive but enjoyable rehearsals before meeting the soloists and orchestra in Worcester's magnificent cathedral. Britten's wonderful Spring Symphony for mixed choir, children's choir, soprano, alto and tenor soloists and large orchestra (which includes a large percussion section as well as a cow-horn) was first performed in America in 1949. The concert will also feature Parry's splendidly rich and satisfying 8-part Blest Pair of Sirens written in 1887. The BSO will perform Elgar's uplifting Froissart Concert Overture, composed in 1890 and first performed in Worcester Cathedral in 1890, conducted by the composer.

Singers prepare themselves, well in advance of October, through 'homework' material especially prepared by Malcolm Goldring. This includes a CD containing keyboard extracts of each voice part, together with the relevant passages from a commercial recording, and detailed interpretative notes so that each choir member arrives at Rehearsal Saturday (6 October 2012) knowing the music and how Malcolm wants it interpreted.

There is an earlier Preparation Day on Saturday 12 May 2012 when the music will be introduced, with the chance to sing through some of the choral material.
