The MFC and the way it is organised should be an object-lesson to every such group in the country ...
Who sings in Midland Festival Chorus? Anyone can apply to take part, although previous choral singing experience is desirable. Those who take part in the Annual Concert will need to commit to a number of conditions - see below. Singers come from across the UK and Europe, as well as locally.
Where does MFC perform? In the inspiring setting of Worcester Cathedral.
When does MFC meet? The first and second Saturdays each October for its Annual Concert. MFC also holds a workshop 'Singing Day' in May, to sing through the main work/s to be performed in October. The Singing Day is also a stand-alone event open to all.
Would I have to audition to take part? No. Joining MFC is on the basis of first-come-first-served, although a balanced choir needs to be created. Singers will be asked to commit to a number of conditions (see below).
What help would I receive if I enrolled? A specially-prepared Homework CD, together with detailed Conductor's Notes about technical and interpretative issues.
Do I have to read music? No, although it would certainly help!
What would be expected of me if I did enrol? To come to the first rehearsal in October knowing your part and how our Musical Director will interpret the music, along with focus, energy, and the physical and mental stamina to cope with two days of intensive rehearsals, as well as the final concert in the Cathedral. We expect that you will:
Are there any special opportunities for young singers? Yes. MFC operates a Young Singers Scheme (YSS) for 15-25 year olds. Young Singers take part at a fraction of the normal cost and, if in full-time education, are given free copies of the vocal scores to keep.
